About City

Zagreb-The city of Museum

The city Zagreb, capital of Croatia is situated beneath the slope of Medvednica Hill to the north and beside the Sava River to the south. It appreciates a rich social existence with 30 museums, large number of exhibitions, numerous theaters, music and more celebrations which consolidate to make Zagreb a city of art. Building doorways around the Lower Town of the city give a connection between open avenues and the private circle of private yards. This city is an important junction of roads and rail lines from west and central Europe to the Adriatic Sea and the Balkans. Not only in Croatia but also in whole south-eastern Europe, Zagreb has become a great tourist destination. The main attractions of the city are Medvednica Mountain (Sljeme), Maksimir Park (Maksimirirski perivoj), Upper Town (Gornji Grad), Art Pavilion (Umjetnički Paviljon), The Archeological and Ethnographic Museums (Arheoloski Muzej), Zagreb Botanical Garden, Tkalciceva Street, Zrinjevac, Mirogoj Cemetery and more. More than thousands islands are found in Croatia’s coastline. Not only Zagreb, the whole Croatia is full of ancient treasures from the Greek and Roman eras.

HOW CAN I GET AROUND ZAGREB?

Getting to and from Zagreb Airport:

If you arrive by plane, the best option is the inexpensive Croatia Airlines bus which takes you to the main bus station in central Zagreb. Buses leave every half an hour outside the airport terminal.

Once you arrive at the bus station, you can flag down a taxi to take you to your accommodation or use a tram to complete your journey. Tram lines 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 run by the bus station. You can take also a taxi from the airport to the city centre. Taxis wait outside the terminal building.

Zagreb Public Transport:

Trams in Zagreb:  Trams are undeniably the best way to get around Zagreb – a service even runs at night. There are 15 routes in Zagreb, and many stop either at Trg bana Jelacica (the main square) or at the main train station.

Buses in Zagreb:  There is also an extensive bus service in the city, with a few routes also operating at night.

Tourist Train: “A tourist train – how does that work?!” you might think. Well, okay, it’s not really a train but a vehicle designed to resemble a train. It runs on a small route in the centre of the city, starting and ending on Ban Jelacic Square. It runs every day at half past the hour from 9.30am to 7.30pm.

Zagreb’s Funicular Railway: Hot on the heels of many a European city, Zagreb also has a small cycle hire scheme in operation. It is perhaps not quite as straightforward to use as some others, as you need to pre-register online and then activate your account with some funds (which can be used against future bike rentals). After you’ve done all of that, the first 30 minutes of bike rental is free, after which it’s 8 Kunas an hour.
